Share this:

New details have emerged of the exact structure of an important HIV vaccine target. The membrane-proximal external region (MPER) is a part of the HIV envelope protein. Broadly neutralising antibodies in people with HIV often target the MPER. A clearer view of the MPER shape and structure could help make vaccines that target this area. The recent study used a model that enabled a better look at the MPER. Using high-resolution protein techniques, they show a more precise structure. This information can guide protein engineering efforts towards better HIV vaccines.
