Research suggests way to eliminate HIV from the body
Scientists have developed a way to prevent HIV from immobilising cells that help fight and destroy infections. Although the finding requires further research, the team at University College London hopes the discovery will lead to a way to eliminate the virus from the body. The cells — called macrophages — are found in the immune system and are the body’s natural defence against invading viruses. HIV hides inside macrophages and reproduces. If researchers can find a way to stop that from happening it may pave the way for a cure.
